NOTES:
The birth year of Giovanni Reres is presently unknown. According to
the 1900 U.S. Census, he was born in December of 1840.
However, the ages on his immigration record of
1890 and his
burial record from 1919
indicates that he was born in 1835.
The birth year of Nicola Reres was attained from the
1900 U.S. Census.
The birth years for Sarah
and Francesca were derived from the ages given in the
1920 U.S. Census. Since the census was taken
in early January of 1920, we are assuming that
Sarah and Francesca reached the ages of 50 and 38, respectively, in 1919.
Antonina's birth date, August 10, 1885,
was found on her Social Security application.
We have, as yet, found no documentary evidence of Lena's existence.
She has been remembered by one neice and one nephew. Whether she married
or had children is presently unknown. Sarah never married.
Documented evidence of the Reres family in America
1890
The ship Elysia, sailing from Naples, Italy
arrived in New York on July 31, 1890.
The ship's manifest included the following members of the Reres family:
Giovanni Reres |

Anna Sulli |
Female |
Laundry worker |

Francesca Reres |

Antonio Reres |

NOTE: It was not uncommon for married women to use their maiden names
on official documents. Anna Reres, therefore, is listed as Anna Sulli.
Also, in an apparent transcription error, Antonina, age 4, was listed as
"Antonio," age 9. It is possible that the ages of the two daughters
where inadvertantly switched. On July 31, Antonina would have been
ten days shy of her fifth birthday, and, according to the
1920 U.S. Census, Francesca would have been 9
in 1890.

1900
Nicola Reres resides at 20 Stanton Street in Manhattan with his
wife, Annie, daughter Anna, son John, and father, Giovanni Reres.
Strangely, Giovanni is listed as a widower, which we know is untrue,
since his wife, Anna (Sulli) Reres, did not die until 1927, as evidenced
below.
